WoodCordCalc was created to solve a persistent frustration in rural and suburban living: vague rules of thumb that leave homeowners with overloaded pickup trucks, freezing coops, or under-heated winter greenhouses.
Our Data Sources & Methodologies
- USDA Forest Service & State Forestry Extensions: All firewood weight, seasoning moisture content, and wood density values ($lbs/cord$) are based on USDA Forest Products Laboratory benchmarks.
- University Agricultural Extensions: Chicken coop ventilation ratios (1 sq ft of opening per 10 sq ft of floor space) and CFM air-exchange rates reflect peer-reviewed poultry housing standards from the University of Maine, Cornell, and Penn State.
- Thermal Engineering & ASHRAE: Greenhouse heating BTU formulas use standard building envelope heat loss calculations ($BTU = Area \times U \times \Delta T$).
